Organizational Profile of Seva Sahayog

Seva Sahayog (SS) is the India Partner of Sewa International which aims at engaging socially conscious corporates, groups and individuals, with NGOs of matching interests.

Current activities of SS
Akshar Bharati - Spreading joy through reading

SS and Akshar Bharati have launched this project to provide libraries in formal and non-formal education centres in the under-privileged sections of society. Currently the project has set 30 libraries in slums of Pune city and has planned 100 libraries during this year covering smaller towns in the state.
The project has seen large-scale employee involvement in various activities including buying-packing-delivering of books and in visiting the libraries and taking feedback from children and NGO workers.

Seva Fairs – Opportunity at doorstep
SS holds exhibitions of NGO products and presents their projects in campuses of various IT companies. This brings an opportunity to do good at the doorstep of corporate units and their employees. During Diwali-2007, SS held Seva Fairs in 10 companies in and around Pune (viz. Cognizant, Symantec, KPIT-Cummins etc). The Seva fair exhibited innovative projects by various NGOs. Seva Fairs have proved to be a good platform for introducing NGOs and corporate to each other.

Seva Darshan – Seeing is believing
SS and its chapters in various companies (e.g. Eaton, Tech-Mahindra, KPIT-Cummins, Sutra etc.) arrange tours to visit NGOs and get a first-hand feel of the work done by NGOs. SS has different packages of NGO exposure; e.g. Trek for Seva, Seva Zoom-in etc. To name a few: volunteers from KPIT-Cummins visited Baripada Forest Management organization in Dhule district, volunteers from Sutra made it to rag-pickers organization in Latur.

IT enabling of NGOs – A form of offering your skills
SS is in constant interaction with NGOs and assesses their needs in using computers and IT applications. SS has developed modules of training for NGO staff and trustees. SS recently provided knowledge and HR support to KPIT-Cummins to conduct a workshop for NGO staff. KPIT volunteers were trained by SS experts and 15 NGOs were invited by SS to attend the workshop. SS has also trained its volunteers in documentation of NGOs and is providing such support to 25 NGOs.

CSR Connect – Linking the need and resources
SS provides support to Companies to develop their CSR line, design employee-involvement activities, and assess NGOs for funding. SS on the other side enables NGOs document and present their work and their needs.

SS helps companies find worthy NGO partners and facilitates the relationship. SS recently availed funds (INR 1,200,000) in this manner to a mobile clinic in Sangola (a drought-prone part of Maharashtra) proposed by Mata Balak Utkarsh Pratishthan. Similar connect by SS has helped hostels for children from Northeastern states and learning centres for children in Pune slums.

Seva internship – Yuva for Sewa

SS facilitates opportunities-to-volunteer with NGOs for international as well as domestic volunteers. Volunteers from USA, UK, and India have participated in the Seva internship program called ‘Yuva for Sewa’.

The volunteers are placed in locations ranging from Pune slums to Satpuda Mountains and villages in Marathwada working with SHGs of rural women, schools for tribal children, mobile laboratories for rural schools etc.

School-kit donation - Experience the Joy of Giving
Seva Sahayog’s school kit sponsorship aims at providing school kits to financially challenged students at few chosen schools, education support centers and slums in and around Pune. Donating One kit costs Rs 200/-. It contains 1 school bag, 9 note books, 1 Drawing book & 1 geometry box.
